In-depth Yoga Trainings in Bellingham
Bellingham Yoga School is a utilitarian yoga teacher training and continuing education program that guides students and teachers of yoga in the studies of yoga as defined in the yoga sutras of Patanjali. Our teacher training program was designed to honor traditional yoga practices, relying on guidance from texts such as the Yoga Sutras, Samkhya Yoga Karika, Shiva Samhita, Hatha Yoga Pradipika, and the Upanishads. This is a general studies foundational yoga course meant for students and teachers. Our yoga school director is a lineage holder in the tradition of T. Krishnamacharya, Sri K Pattabhi Jois, and David Garrigues. Our school is registered by Yoga Alliance and is internationally recognized and its curriculum practiced all over the world.
Bellingham has 28 times more registered yoga teachers than the per capita average in the United States. There are plenty of teachers, and it is a buyers market for students. We’re not here for the fitness oriented (although Ashtanga Yoga can be quite hard), but for those who are seeking to reach into yoga beyond the surface film of our local economy. Bellingham Yoga School offers systems of yoga given to us by our ancestors, from the lineage of yoga that came to the United States from India, through a major artery in Seattle. We honor contemporary adaptations, and appreciate the fitness industry model, but we seek to offer guidance and knowledge into the reality described by masters of yoga, who warned against treating yoga as an exercise, and practicing with “pseudo yogis”. We offer a Yoga Alliance 200 hour program that has trained teachers who now serve all over the northwest, and at this time is being taught around the globe. Bellingham is now home to the original 200 hour that was taught by two Ashtanga Yoga lineage holders in Seattle. It is offered in an evening, weekend, and intensive format.
Bellingham Yoga School also offers the community yoga classes by yoga teachers who have met our standard, which is more than the Yoga Alliance 200 hour standard. All classes taught at Bellingham Yoga School are by teachers who follow the traditions expressed in the yoga sutras, shastras, and guided by common sense principles. We are hopefully non-dogmatic, while respecting the traditions of parampara, and those that were given to yoga practitioners for centuries before it came to the US. All yoga classes taught here are researched and consistent with the concept of yoga outlined in the yoga sutras, a seminal document of yoga that is non-theistic, and from which the living yoga lineage has spread to the US, and from which all other yoga businesses prosper, that of the lineage of Sri T. Krishnamacharya, and the practice of Ashtanga Yoga as laid out in the yoga sutras of Patanjali.
